Project Wedding: The Cakes

I'm continuing my Project Wedding series with something every wedding must have - the cakes! Carla and David's rustic wedding was no exception. Carla knew she wanted a rustic looking cake. She found some very pretty examples on Pinterest.

The Inspiration:

Carla decided to incorporate little bits of all her inspirational cakes. She used two stacked grapevine wreaths for the base of her cake. For the flower on the side she found a burlap flower at Hobby Lobby and pinned an old broach to it. She attached the twiggy branches found at Michael's behind the burlap flower. We also glued lace ribbon to burlap strips for each tier of the cake.

So, pretty much, the wonderful lady who made her cake made a plain white cake that we added all of the decorations to. I helped my mother-in-law attach the burlap strips to each tier, and I was extremely nervous I was going to screw something up. But, it turned out fine. And, the cake was a white cake with divinity icing. Delicious!

Carla also went with a cake topper from AprilHilerDesigns on Etsy. It matched the vine wreaths really well.

David really didn't care what was on his cake. He wanted the groom's table with the cake to reflect one of his favorite things - pool. That is how Carla and David met, playing on the same team in a billiards league. So, he had a basic chocolate cake with a tree ring base to go along with the rustic theme. His table had a vase with billiard balls and pictures of him and Carla with their pool team.

I thought the cakes turned out fabulous! They went with Carla and David's rustic, country wedding theme really well. And, they were delicious!

Thanks for joining me for my Project Wedding series. Only a few more posts to go, including a fun highlight of the candy buffet! Click below to see other projects from Carla and David's wedding.
